Your boiler has failed to ignite, which means it cannot heat the water for your taps or radiators.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Boiler has failed to light (initially may be due to air in the gas supply line).
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler tries to light the flame several times but fails to detect one, causing the system to shut down for safety. The most common reasons are a lack of gas reaching the burner, a worn-out ignition electrode that can no longer create a spark, or a fault with the gas valve. In some cases, it can also be caused by air trapped in the gas pipes or a blockage in the flue system.
This issue is frequently seen during the first cold snap of autumn when a boiler that has been idle all summer is suddenly forced to work at full capacity.
