Technical description: After a pre-set time if ignition has not taken place the boiler will shutdown. The control will conduct a purge before the ignition system will operate to light the boiler. If the lighting sequence fails after repeating twice more (four attempts total), the boiler will shut down with these indicators.
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's control system attempts to light the burner but cannot detect a stable flame after several attempts. The most common reasons are a lack of gas reaching the burner, a dirty or worn ignition electrode that cannot create a spark, or a failing gas valve that isn't opening correctly.
This issue often surfaces during the first cold snap of autumn when the boiler is worked harder after being dormant throughout the summer.
DIY fix possible
Check that your gas meter is turned on and other gas appliances are working.Press and hold the reset button for several seconds to allow the boiler to restart the ignition sequence.Ensure the external flue vent on the outside wall is not blocked by debris or leaves.
