Technical description: Dry fire thermostat reset button - air in the system could trip the dry fire 'stat
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler detects heat but no water present, causing it to shut down to prevent damage. The most common reason is air trapped inside the heat exchanger or a leak in the system that has caused the pressure to drop too low. It can also happen if the pump is failing to circulate water properly, leading to a localized hotspot that trips the safety sensor.
This issue is more frequent in autumn when the heating is turned back on after summer, as air often becomes trapped in the pipework during long periods of inactivity.
DIY fix possible
Check that your system pressure is topped up to roughly 1.5 barBleed all radiators to remove trapped airPress the small reset button located on the dry fire thermostat itself (usually found inside the case or at the bottom)
