Your boiler is trying to start up but is failing to light the burner, meaning it cannot provide heating or hot water.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Ignition: When the fan has reached the starting speed, the burner is ignited by means of electrical sparks.
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler has tried to ignite several times but fails to detect a flame. The most common reasons are a lack of gas reaching the unit, a worn-out ignition spark plug, or a sensor that can no longer tell if the fire is actually lit. It can also be caused by debris blocking the burner or a faulty gas valve preventing fuel from entering the system.
This fault often appears during the first cold snap of autumn when a boiler that has been idle all summer is suddenly forced to work at full capacity.
