Technical description: Burner ignition
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's internal computer calls for heat but cannot confirm that a stable flame has been established. It is often caused by a lack of fuel reaching the burner, worn-out spark components that fail to ignite the gas, or a dirty sensor that cannot 'see' the flame even if it is present.
This issue is more frequent during the first cold snap of autumn, as internal components like gas valves can seize up after being idle throughout the summer.
DIY fix possible
Check that your gas emergency control valve is open and that other gas appliances in your home are working. If you have a prepaid gas meter, ensure it has sufficient credit.Press the reset button on the front of the boiler for five seconds to attempt a restart.
