Your boiler's pilot light is failing to stay lit, which means the main burner cannot start to heat your home.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Main burner fails to light and pilot is extinguished when pressure on the button is released
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's safety system fails to detect a steady pilot flame, which causes the gas valve to shut off for your protection. The most common reason is a worn-out thermocouple that can no longer sense the heat of the flame, or a blocked pilot injector that is preventing a proper flame from forming in the first place.
This issue is frequently noticed during the first cold spell of autumn when the boiler is switched back on after being idle all summer, as dust or debris can settle in the pilot assembly.
DIY fix possible
Locate the pilot viewing window and the gas control button.Press and hold the button fully in while simultaneously using the igniter until you see a flame.Continue to hold the button firmly for 20 to 30 seconds to allow the safety sensor to warm up before slowly releasing it.
