Your boiler is failing to light the gas or cannot detect the flame once it has started, meaning you will have no heating or hot water until it is fixed.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Flame Failure
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler tries to start but fails to prove a stable flame is present. The most common reasons are a worn-out ignition lead that can no longer produce a spark or a layer of carbon buildup on the sensing probe that prevents the boiler from 'seeing' the fire. In some cases, the gas valve may be stuck, preventing fuel from reaching the burner even if the spark is working.
This issue often surfaces during the first cold snap of autumn when the boiler is forced to work harder after sitting idle throughout the summer.
