Your boiler thinks it sees a flame even though it hasn't started yet, which is causing it to stop for safety.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: False Flame Fault
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's internal sensors detect the presence of a flame at a time when the burner should be off. The most common reason is a faulty flame sensing electrode that is sending a confused signal to the main control board, or a leak onto the electronics causing a short circuit. Because the boiler believes it is unsafe to proceed with a new ignition sequence, it shuts down entirely to prevent a potential gas build-up.
This fault can sometimes be more common during periods of high humidity or heavy rain, as moisture ingress can affect the electrical resistance of the sensing electrodes.
Engineer required
This fault requires a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
