What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler tries to light the gas three times but fails to detect a sustained flame. The most common reasons are a lack of gas reaching the burner, a build-up of carbon on the ignition probes, or a component failure that prevents the spark from starting. It effectively acts as a safety shutdown to prevent unburnt gas from building up in the system.
This fault can be more frequent during the first cold snap of autumn when a boiler has been sat idle for months and the internal moving parts, like the gas valve, have become slightly stuck.
DIY fix possible
Locate the reset button or selector switch on the front control panel.Turn the switch to the 'Reset' position or press the button for at least 5 seconds.Wait for the boiler to attempt the ignition sequence again.Ensure your gas supply is turned on at the meter and other gas appliances are working.
