What causes this fault?
This occurs when the boiler has worked efficiently to heat the water to its set limit and pauses to prevent overheating. It is a natural part of the heating cycle where the burner switches off while the pump continues to circulate water around your radiators. Once the water temperature drops by a few degrees, the boiler will automatically fire up again to maintain warmth.
This is more frequent during autumn and spring when the heating is on but the outside temperature is mild, causing the boiler to reach its target temperature very quickly.
DIY fix possible
Check that your room thermostat is set to the desired temperatureEnsure at least some radiator valves are turned to the maximum settingWait a few minutes for the boiler to restart automatically once the water temperature drops
