Your boiler has detected an issue with the air fan, meaning it cannot safely circulate the air and gas needed to stay lit.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Fan speed variation | Fan blocked, plug not inserted correctly on fan, hall sensor defective, fault in cable harness, electronics defective
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's control system loses the ability to regulate the fan's speed or realizes the fan isn't spinning at all. The most common reason is a mechanical failure within the fan motor itself or a loose electrical connection that prevents the boiler from safely moving waste gases out of the flue.
Engineer required
This fault requires a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
