Your boiler is taking a short rest to prevent it from switching on and off too frequently, which helps protect the internal components from unnecessary wear.
This is a minor fault. Keep an eye on it and mention it at your next annual boiler service. Reset the boiler and see if it clears.
Technical description: Max burner anti-cycling period at 20c flow temperature
What causes this fault?
This occurs because your boiler has reached its target temperature and is temporarily pausing to prevent 'short-cycling'. The system is waiting for the water in your radiators to cool down slightly before firing up again to ensure it operates efficiently. This prevents the burner from turning on and off too rapidly, which would otherwise cause unnecessary wear and tear on the internal components.
This is more common during the autumn and spring when the weather is milder and your home requires less heat to stay warm.
DIY fix possible
Wait approximately 15 to 20 minutes for the countdown to end and the boiler to restart automatically.Check that all radiator valves are fully open to allow heat to circulate.Ensure your room thermostat is turned up higher than the current room temperature.
