Your boiler has sensed that the water inside has become too hot and has shut down as a safety precaution.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Overheating
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when water cannot flow through the boiler’s heat exchanger quickly enough to carry heat away, causing it to reach a dangerous temperature. The most common reasons are a pump failure that stops water from circulating or a build-up of sludge and debris that creates a physical blockage in the system.
This issue often surfaces in autumn when the heating is turned back on after a long summer break, as internal pump components can seize during periods of inactivity.
DIY fix possible
Check that all radiator valves are fully open to allow water to circulate.Ensure there is no trapped air in the system by bleeding your radiators.Wait for the boiler to cool down and try resetting it using the control dial.
