Your boiler thinks there is a flame present when there shouldn't be, which is a safety conflict that prevents the system from starting.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: false flame
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's sensors detect an electrical current that mimics a flame even though the burner hasn't been signaled to light. The most common reason is a faulty sensing electrode that is sending a 'false positive' signal back to the main control board, often due to moisture or carbon buildup. In some cases, the internal electronics of the boiler may be failing and incorrectly interpreting electrical noise as a flame.
This fault can sometimes follow periods of heavy rain or high humidity, as moisture entering the casing can cause electrical tracking on the ignition components.
