Your boiler is continuing to run and heat your home even after you have turned the heating off at the programmer or thermostat.
This fault should be looked at by a Gas Safe engineer within the next week or two. It may get worse if left.
Technical description: External wiring fault; Faulty motorised valve
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when a mechanical part in your heating system, usually a motorised valve, gets stuck in the 'open' position and continues to send an electrical signal to the boiler. Even though your programmer has told the system to stop, the stuck valve trickles power back to the boiler, tricking it into thinking there is still a demand for heat. This is often caused by a worn-out internal motor or a seized lever within the external pipework controls.
This issue is most frequently noticed in autumn or spring when homeowners begin to use their heating intermittently and notice the radiators staying hot long after the timer has finished.
Engineer required
This fault requires a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
