Your boiler has shut down because it has detected it is getting too hot, likely due to a circulation problem or a faulty safety sensor.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Limit thermostat fault
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the water temperature inside your boiler exceeds a safe limit, triggering a safety switch to prevent damage. The most common reasons are a pump failure that stops water from moving or a buildup of debris that blocks the flow, causing the heat exchanger to overheat rapidly.
This error often appears when the heating is first turned on in autumn, as pump components can seize up after being idle during the summer months.
DIY fix possible
Check that your radiator valves are fully open to allow water to flow.Check that the boiler pressure is between 1 and 1.5 bar on the pressure gauge.Try resetting the boiler by turning the control knob to the 'OFF/RESET' position and then back to 'ON'.
