Your boiler is struggling to maintain a steady flame, which is likely caused by a loose connection or a dirty component inside the burner unit.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Intermittent combustion value caused by a possible error with electrode position or electrical connection stability.
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's internal computer receives an unstable signal from the flame, making it unsure if it is safe to keep burning gas. The most common reasons are a loose electrical wire connected to the burner or a buildup of carbon on the sensors that monitor the flame. Over time, these components can also shift out of their precise positions, preventing them from detecting the heat correctly.
