Your boiler has failed to light because it cannot detect a flame, likely due to a temporary interruption in the gas supply or a blockage in the drainage pipe.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Flame not detected
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler tries to light but fails to detect a steady flame after several attempts. The most common reasons are a temporary break in the gas supply, a blocked drainage pipe that has backed up into the unit, or a dirty internal sensor that can no longer 'see' the fire.
This fault is frequently seen during freezing winter spells, as the external condensate drainage pipe can freeze solid, causing the boiler to shut down for safety.
DIY fix possible
Check if other gas appliances in your home, like a hob, are working to confirm gas supply. If it is freezing outside, check if the white plastic condensate pipe is frozen and thaw it with warm water.Hold the reset button for five seconds until the display returns to normal.
