What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's control system senses that the fan isn't reaching the necessary speed to safely push exhaust fumes out of the flue. The most common reason is a mechanical failure within the fan motor itself or a buildup of debris that prevents it from spinning freely. In some cases, the main circuit board may be failing to send the correct electrical signals to get the fan moving.
This fault is slightly more common in winter, as the fan has to work harder to overcome cold air pressure within the flue and any wear in the motor becomes more apparent during periods of constant use.
