Your boiler has lost its internal identity chip and cannot communicate with its main control board, meaning it won't be able to provide heating or hot water until it is reconnected.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Code plug not detected.
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's memory chip, which contains all the specific settings for your model, loses its connection to the main control board. The most common reason is that the chip has vibrated loose over time or has suffered an internal electrical failure, causing the boiler to shut down for safety because it no longer 'knows' how to operate correctly. In some cases, this can also happen after a significant power surge that damages the communication link between these two electronic components.
Engineer required
This fault requires a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
