Your boiler has shut itself down because it has become too hot or failed to light the flame correctly.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Appliance does not ignite. Safety temperature device activated.
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's internal sensors detect that the water inside has reached a dangerously high temperature or the burner has failed to light after several attempts. Common reasons include a pump failure preventing heat from moving away from the boiler, or worn-out ignition components that can no longer create a reliable flame.
This issue often surfaces during the first cold snap of autumn when a pump that has been idle all summer fails to start, causing the unit to overheat immediately.
