Common problems guide

The most common Alpha Intec2 30SE problems

The faults most likely to send a Alpha Intec2 30SE into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
E10 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside your heating system has dropped too low.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, usually two silver valves connected by a small braided hose underneath the boiler.Gradually open the valves to allow water into the system until the pressure gauge reads between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.Close both valves tightly and ensure the boiler resets its display.

10 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside your heating system has dropped too low.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, usually a small silver braided hose with one or two valves located underneath the boiler.Slowly open the valve(s) to allow mains water into the system while watching the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler.Close the valve(s) firmly once the needle sits between 1.0 and 1.5 bar on the gauge and check the fault code has cleared.

03
51 High DIY-safe

Your boiler is struggling to talk to your wireless thermostat, which means it doesn't know when to turn your heating on or off.

What to try first

Check if the batteries in your wireless room thermostat are dead and replace them with high-quality alkaline batteries.Turn the power to the boiler off at the fused spur for one minute, then turn it back on to reset the connection.Ensure there are no new large electronic devices or metal obstructions placed between the thermostat and the boiler receiver.

Est. cost
£100-250
Parts
Climatic RF receiver, PCB, Wireless thermostat unit

04
E01 High Engineer

Your boiler has failed to light the flame needed to produce heat and hot water.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Ignition electrode, Gas valve, PCB

05
E02 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected that it is getting too hot and has automatically shut down to prevent damage or dangerous overheating.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Pump, Plate heat exchanger, NTC thermistor

06
E04 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected an issue with its internal electrical connections, preventing it from starting up safely.

Est. cost
£150-250
Parts
Control PCB, Wiring harness, Gas valve

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…

  • You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
  • The Alpha shows an Emergency or High severity code
  • The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
  • You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
  • There's visible water leaking from the boiler
  • The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
