The 6 most common faults
Your boiler has likely overheated, causing a safety switch to trip and shut the system down to protect itself.
Wait for the boiler to cool down for at least 30 minutesCheck that your radiator valves are open and not blockedTurn the selector switch to the 'R' (reset) position for at least 5 seconds and then back to the heater/hot water symbol
Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low.
Locate the filling loop (the flexible silver hose usually found underneath the boiler)Slowly open the one or two taps on the hose until you hear water movingMonitor the pressure gauge and close the taps once it reaches between 1.0 and 1.5 bar
Your boiler is struggling to move water around the system correctly, which is causing it to overheat and shut down for safety.
Check that your radiator valves are fully openEnsure all bypass valves or local isolation valves are openTry resetting the boiler to see if the error clears
Your boiler has failed to light because it either cannot get enough gas or it cannot detect the flame it has sparked.
Check that your gas emergency control valve is open and you have credit on your meter.Inspect the condensate pipe (the plastic pipe leading outside) for ice if it is freezing weather, and thaw with warm water if blocked.Press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds to try and restart the pilot sequence.
Your boiler has detected that water is not circulating correctly through the system before the burner ignites, often caused by a temporary blockage or air in the pipes.
Check that all radiator valves are fully openBleed all radiators to remove trapped airEnsure the system pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 bar on the gaugeReset the boiler using the selector switch
Your boiler has become too hot and has shut itself down as a safety precaution, often because water cannot circulate properly.
Turn the boiler off and allow it to cool down completelyCheck all radiator valves are open and bleed your radiators to remove trapped airCheck the boiler pressure gauge and top up to 1.5 bar if it is too lowReset the boiler using the selector switch

Based on parts cited in our fault code database. Your engineer will confirm what's actually needed after diagnosis.
Call a Gas Safe engineer if…
- You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
- The Baxi shows an Emergency or High severity code
- The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
- You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
- There's visible water leaking from the boiler
- The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
