Green light

Your boiler has successfully lit its pilot light and is now ready to heat your home.

Low DIY-safe

What to check first

  1. No action is required as this light indicates the boiler is functioning correctly.
  2. If the green light is on but there is no heat, check your room thermostat is turned up.
  3. Ensure your programmer or timer is set to an 'on' period.
No lights

Your boiler has completely lost power, meaning it cannot start the heating or hot water process.

High DIY-safe £90-250

What to check first

  1. Check if other appliances in the house have power
  2. Check your home's main consumer unit (fuse box) to see if a circuit has tripped
  3. Check the fused spur switch near the boiler is turned on and try replacing the 3-amp fuse

Parts commonly replaced

  • External fuse
  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
  • Wiring harness
Orange light (Boiler fault)

Your boiler has detected a problem and has shut itself down for safety, meaning your heating and hot water will stop working until it is reset or repaired.

High DIY-safe £100-280

What to check first

  1. Locate the reset button on the control panel
  2. Press and hold the reset button for five seconds
  3. Wait for the boiler to attempt to reignite; if the light stays off and the boiler fires, it was a nuisance trip

Parts commonly replaced

  • Gas Valve
  • Ignition Electrode
  • Flame Sensing Probe
  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
Orange light (first)

Your boiler is receiving a constant electrical signal even when it should be off, often caused by a faulty external control or internal component failure.

High Engineer only £120-280

Parts commonly replaced

  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
  • External Programmer
  • Motorised Zone Valve
Orange light (second)

Your boiler's electronic control box has detected an internal electrical failure or a timing error that prevents it from starting the ignition process.

High Engineer only £180-350

Parts commonly replaced

  • GCE Honeywell Ignition Control Box
  • Ignition Electrode
  • HT Lead
Orange light (single)

Your back boiler is receiving constant electricity but is not responding, which usually indicates the internal controller or a safety sensor has failed.

High Engineer only £120-250

Parts commonly replaced

  • PCB (Printed Circuit Board)
  • Overheat Thermostat
  • Control Box
Orange light (third)

Your boiler is attempting to light but is failing to recognize the flame or ignite successfully.

High Engineer only £90-180

Parts commonly replaced

  • Thermocouple
  • Spark electrode
  • Ignition lead
  • Gas valve
Second orange light

Your back boiler is receiving two different electrical power signals at the same time, which is causing a control conflict and preventing it from running properly.

High Engineer only £90-210

Parts commonly replaced

  • External Heating Controls
  • Motorised Zone Valve
  • PCB
Third orange light

Your boiler is trying to light the flame but can't quite get the fire started, despite the igniter clicking.

High Engineer only £95-210

Parts commonly replaced

  • Spark Electrode
  • HT Lead
  • Gas Valve
  • Electromagnetic Unit
