Common problems guide

The most common Ferroli Domina 102 problems

The faults most likely to send a Ferroli Domina 102 into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
LED 5 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that there is not enough water inside the system to operate safely, so it has turned itself off to prevent damage.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, which is usually a silver flexible hose with one or two small valves under the boiler.Open the valve(s) slowly to allow water into the system while watching the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler.Close the valve(s) tightly once the needle reaches the green zone, typically between 1 and 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor

02
Low water pressure light ON High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system is too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop, which is a silver braided hose with one or two valves underneath the boiler.Slowly open the valve(s) to let water into the system while watching the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler.Close the valve(s) firmly once the needle sits between 1 and 1.5 bar, then check for any leaks.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Pressure relief valve, Pressure gauge, Water pressure switch

03
Insufficient pressure High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the heating system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, which is a silver braided flexible hose connected between two pipes underneath the boiler.Open the small valve(s) on either end of the hose to allow mains water into the system until the pressure gauge reads between 1 and 1.5 bar.Firmly close the valve(s) to stop the water flow and ensure the boiler resets itself.

Est. cost
£80-120
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure gauge

04
5 (Flashing) High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the heating system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, which is usually a braided silver hose connecting two pipes under the boilerOpen the small valve or tap on the filling loop to allow cold mains water to enter the systemWatch the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler and close the valve once the needle reaches 1.5 barCheck for any obvious puddles under radiators or the boiler that might explain the initial pressure loss

£80-120

05
LED5 bar (Flashing) High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped heating because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, which is a silver braided hose connected between two valves underneath the boiler.Open the valves slowly to allow mains cold water into the system while watching the pressure gauge.Close the valves tightly once the needle reaches the green zone, typically between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure gauge

06
LED 5 (Flashing light) High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the heating system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop (a flexible silver hose connecting two pipes near the boiler).Slowly open the tap or valve on the filling loop to allow water into the system.Watch the pressure gauge on the boiler until the needle reaches the green zone (usually 1.0 to 1.5 bar), then close the valve tightly.

Est. cost
£0-90
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure gauge

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…

  • You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
  • The Ferroli shows an Emergency or High severity code
  • The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
  • You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
  • There's visible water leaking from the boiler
  • The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
