Worcester vs Vaillant vs Ideal: which is best in 2026?

These three brands cover 70% of UK boiler installs. They all make good products — the question is which suits your situation. Here's the honest comparison, written by someone who doesn't fit boilers (so no commission bias on which brand we push).

Our angle

We host fault codes for all three brands. That means we see the bugs. Our honest take below is based on the codes we see most often, the parts that fail most often, and engineer feedback. Not based on installer commissions.

At a glance

Worcester Bosch

From UK (German parent) · Flagship: Greenstar 4000 / 8000 Life
Best for peace of mind ££££
Strength

Customer service, brand trust, nationwide engineer network

Watch-out

You're paying a premium for the name. Aluminium heat exchangers corrode faster than stainless steel in poor water conditions.

Warranty: Up to 12 years (approved installers)

Vaillant

From Germany · Flagship: ecoTEC Plus / ecoTEC Exclusive
Best build quality ££££
Strength

Stainless steel heat exchanger (more corrosion-resistant), quieter operation, engineers' favourite.

Watch-out

Slightly more expensive than Worcester on most sizes. Error codes less well documented online historically (we've fixed that).

Warranty: Up to 12 years (Advance installer)

Ideal

From UK (Groupe Atlantic) · Flagship: Logic Max / Logic+ / Vogue Max
Best value ££
Strength

Best price for feature set. Logic+ is cheaper than the Worcester equivalent by £200–£500 and has comparable efficiency.

Watch-out

Slightly shorter parts availability than Worcester/Vaillant legacy models. Past quality issues on the Classic range (now fixed).

Warranty: Up to 10 years

Which should you pick?

→ Pick Worcester if…

You want a brand everyone's heard of, you'll sell the house in the next 5 years (adds resale value), or your current engineer is Worcester-accredited. Best customer-service experience if something goes wrong.

→ Pick Vaillant if…

You care about long-term reliability over resale, you live somewhere with hard water (stainless steel heat exchanger holds up better), or noise matters (bedroom-adjacent, flat). Engineers' top pick.

→ Pick Ideal if…

Budget matters and you're willing to save £200–£500 for a very similar product. Logic Max is genuinely competitive with the Greenstar 4000 at a lower price. Also the best choice if you're a landlord and want quality without premium pricing.

One thing that matters more than brand

A good installer matters more than brand choice. A Worcester boiler fitted badly will fail before a Vokera fitted well. When picking an installer, check: Gas Safe registration, manufacturer-accredited status (extends warranty to 10+ years), and recent reviews on Checkatrade or Trustpilot.
