Technical description: Blank Display

What causes the Ideal 4.16 fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler's internal computer brain loses its electrical supply or suffers a terminal hardware failure. It is typically caused by a blown fuse on the control board or a malfunction within the main circuit board that prevents power from reaching the screen. Because the display is dark and the controls are unresponsive, the system cannot process any requests for heating.

This fault is often seen following summer storms or winter power surges, as electrical spikes can easily blow the sensitive fuses or damage the circuit board.

Typical repair cost £120-400 (including labour)

DIY fix possible

Check if your home's main fuse box has tripped a circuit breaker.Ensure the boiler's isolation switch (usually a white fused spur near the unit) is turned on.Check if other appliances in the house are working to rule out a general power cut.
