Technical description: Overcurrent Protection Error

What causes the Ideal P3 fault?

This fault occurs when the heat pump’s internal sensors detect an electrical current that is too high, causing the system to shut down to prevent a fire or permanent damage. The most common reasons are a malfunctioning inverter board that can no longer regulate power or a mechanical failure in the compressor or fan motor that causes them to pull excessive electricity.

This fault can be more frequent during summer heatwaves, as the system has to work harder to reject heat, which can cause aging electrical components to overheat and draw more current.

Typical repair cost £150-300 (including labour)
