High Lockout
E36 on Intergas Combi Compact HRE 24/18

Your boiler thinks it sees a flame even though it hasn't started the ignition process yet, which is a safety error that prevents the unit from firing up.

Call an engineer soon

Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24 to 48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.

Technical description

Flame detected without gas valve opening

What causes this fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler's internal sensors detect a flame signal at a time when the burner should be off. The most common reason is a malfunctioning ionisation electrode that is sending a false signal, or a fault within the main control board that is misinterpreting electrical interference as a flame. It can also be caused by moisture or carbon deposits building up on the ignition components, creating a 'leak' of electricity.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
