Your boiler is trying to start but cannot detect a flame, meaning it is failing to ignite after several attempts.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Elapsed time gas valve open without gas
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler attempts to ignite several times but fails to establish a steady flame. The most common reasons include a lack of gas reaching the unit, a blocked burner, or worn-out ignition components that can no longer create a spark. It can also be caused by a faulty sensor that fails to tell the boiler that a flame has actually been lit.
This fault is more common during the first cold snap of winter when components that have been idle over summer are suddenly put under heavy strain.
