Technical description: Internal boiler control board error / Reset button pressed too many times

What causes the Potterton E153 fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler's internal computer registers too many reset attempts within a five-minute window, causing it to freeze for luxury and safety reasons. It is usually triggered by a homeowner trying to clear a different, underlying fault code repeatedly without fixing the actual problem. The boiler essentially enters a 'timed lockout' to protect the electronic components from further interference.

Typical repair cost £0-120 (including labour)

DIY fix possible

Turn the power to the boiler off at the fused spur switch (the wall switch).Wait for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to allow the internal memory to clear.Turn the power back on and wait for the boiler to complete its start-up sequence without touching the reset button.
