Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Flame Failure or Blocked Condensate Drain
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler tries to ignite but fails to detect a stable flame, often because the components that create the spark or sense the fire are worn out. It can also be triggered if the internal waste water pipe becomes clogged with debris, which causes water to back up and flood the burner area. In some cases, the gas valve may simply not be opening correctly to allow fuel into the system.
This fault is particularly common during freezing winter temperatures, as the external waste pipe can freeze solid and cause the boiler to shut down for safety.
DIY fix possible
Check if your gas supply is active (e.g., check other gas appliances or prepay meter credit).Inspect the white plastic pipe exiting the wall outside for signs of ice or blockages; gently pour warm water over it if frozen.Press and hold the reset button for five seconds to see if the boiler restarts.
