Technical description: The burner has failed to light, or incomplete lighting of the burner has occurred. If the boiler does not relight after resetting blockage of the condensate drain or trap has occurred. (Burner On: Off, Flame Failure: On, Power On: On)
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler's internal computer tries to start the burner but doesn't detect a steady flame, causing the system to shut down for safety. The most common cause is a blockage in the condensate trap or external drain pipe, which allows wastewater to back up into the boiler and 'drown' the flame. It can also be triggered by worn-out ignition parts or a fault with the gas supply preventing the burner from catching.
This fault is frequent during freezing winter temperatures, as the external condensate pipe can freeze solid, causing water to back up and prevent the boiler from lighting.
DIY fix possible
Press and hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds.Ensure your gas supply is turned on and you have credit on your meter.Check the white plastic pipe outside your house (the condensate pipe) for ice or debris and gently thaw it with warm water if frozen.
