Your boiler is lighting but cannot confirm the flame is present, causing it to shut down for safety.
Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24–48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.
Technical description: Go to section ‘I’: Check flame sensing electrode and lead connections, flame sensing electrode position, and flame current (should be 1 µA approx.). Ensure mains input terminal L is Live (230V) and N is Neutral (0V).
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler successfully ignites but the control system fails to detect the heat from the flame. The most common reason is a worn or soot-covered sensing probe that can no longer send an electrical signal back to the main circuit board. Without this confirmation, the boiler automatically shuts down the gas supply as a safety precaution to prevent unburnt gas from building up.
