Common problems guide

The most common Potterton Performa 24i HE problems

The faults most likely to send a Potterton Performa 24i HE into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
27 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that water is either not moving around the system correctly or that the pressure of the water inside the unit is too low to run safely.

What to try first

Locate the pressure gauge on the front of your boiler.Check if the needle is below the 1 bar mark.Use the filling loop (a metal braided hose or key under the boiler) to slightly open the valves and top up the system until the needle reaches 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Central heating pump, Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor

02
E118 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system is too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop, which is usually a silver braided hose near the bottom of the boiler.Open the valves on the filling loop to allow cold mains water into the heating system.Watch the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler and close the valves once the needle reaches 1.5 bar, then turn the boiler off and on again to reset.

Est. cost
£80-120
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor

03
118 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the heating system has dropped too low.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop, which is usually a flexible silver hose connected to two valves under your boiler.Open the valves slowly to allow water into the system until the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler reads between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.Close both valves tightly and ensure the pressure gauge remains steady.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure relief valve, Pressure gauge

04
24 High Engineer

Your boiler has stopped working because it cannot light its burner properly, which is often caused by a blockage in the pipe that drains away waste water.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Condensate trap, Ignition electrode, Gas valve
Full guide for 24
05
25 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected that it is getting too hot and has automatically shut itself down to prevent damage.

Est. cost
£150-300
Parts
Safety limit thermostat, Central heating pump, Diverter valve
Full guide for 25
06
26 High Engineer

Your boiler is currently unable to safely remove waste gases, so it has shut itself down to prevent any risk to your home.

Est. cost
£150-350
Parts
Fan unit, Flue pressure switch, Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
