Common problems guide

The most common Potterton Titanium problems

The faults most likely to send a Potterton Titanium into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
E119 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, usually two silver valves connected by a braided metal hose underneath the boiler.Slowly open the valves to allow mains water into the system while watching the pressure gauge on the front display.Close both valves tightly once the needle reaches the green zone, ideally around 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Pressure Relief Valve, Pressure Transducer, Expansion Vessel

02
Error 119 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside your heating system has dropped too low.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, usually a small silver braided hose with one or two valves located underneath the boiler.Gradually open the valve(s) to allow water into the system while watching the pressure gauge on the front panel.Stop filling exactly when the needle reaches the green zone, typically between 1.0 and 1.5 bar, and ensure the valve is tightly closed.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor, Expansion vessel

03
E20 High Engineer

Your boiler has lost the ability to accurately measure the temperature of the water circulating through your radiators, so it has shut down to prevent overheating.

Est. cost
£120-200
Parts
Central Heating NTC Sensor, Wiring harness

04
E50 High Engineer

Your boiler has lost the ability to measure the temperature of your hot water, so it has shut down to prevent overheating.

Est. cost
£120-180
Parts

Full guide for E50
05
E110 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected that it is overheating and has automatically switched itself off to prevent damage or potential danger.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Pump, Diverter Valve, Heat Exchanger
Full guide for E110
06
E125 High Engineer

Your boiler is struggling to move water through the system, either because there isn't enough water pressure or because the pump is having trouble circulating it.

Est. cost
£150-300
Parts
Central Heating Pump, Diverter Valve, System Filter
