Common problems guide

The most common Ravenheat TS 90 problems

The faults most likely to send a Ravenheat TS 90 into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
28 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that the water pressure is too low or isn't circulating properly, causing the system to shut down for safety.

What to try first

Check the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler; it should be between 1 and 1.5 bar.If the pressure is below 1 bar, use the external filling loop to top up the system with water.Restart or reset the boiler to see if the error clears once the pressure is correct.

Est. cost
£100-280
Parts
Low water pressure switch, Circulation pump, Expansion vessel recharge

02
02 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped heating because internal sensors have detected an incorrect temperature reading, often due to a temporary glitch or overheating.

What to try first

Locate the control panel on the front of the boilerTurn the control knob to the 'R' or 'Reset' position for approximately five secondsReturn the knob to its original position and wait for the boiler to restart

Est. cost
£100-220
Parts
Temperature thermistor (NTC sensor), Overheat thermostat

03
E02 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because water is not moving around the system properly, which is causing it to overheat and shut down for safety.

What to try first

Check that your home's central heating valves are openEnsure the system pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 barTry resetting the boiler to see if the pump was simply stuck after a period of inactivity

Est. cost
£180-350
Parts
Circulation Pump, Pump Capacitor, Flow Temperature Sensor
Full guide for E02
04
E06 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that the temperature in the central heating pipes has become too high, causing it to shut down for safety.

What to try first

Check that your radiator valves are fully open to allow water to circulate.Ensure the boiler pressure gauge is between 1 and 1.5 bar, and top up if necessary.Check if any bypass valves are closed and try restarting the boiler.

Est. cost
£90-180
Parts
CH temperature sensor (NTC thermistor), Circulation pump, Main heat exchanger
Full guide for E06
05
E08 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that the water pressure in the system is too low to run safely and has stopped working to prevent damage.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop (usually a silver braided hose with small taps) underneath the boiler.Open both taps slowly until you hear water moving and watch the pressure gauge.Close both taps firmly once the pressure gauge needle reaches between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.

Est. cost
£0-120
Parts
Filling loop, Expansion vessel, Pressure sensor
Full guide for E08
06
E09 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has got too hot and has shut down as a safety precaution to prevent damage.

What to try first

Turn the boiler off and allow it to cool down for 20 minutes.Ensure all radiator valves are fully open and there are no obstructions to the system flow.Locate the reset button on the control panel and press it to restart the unit.

Est. cost
£100-250
Parts
Overheat Thermostat, Circulating Pump, Main Heat Exchanger

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…

  • You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
  • The Ravenheat shows an Emergency or High severity code
  • The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
  • You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
  • There's visible water leaking from the boiler
  • The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
