The 6 most common faults

01
E040 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that the water pressure inside the system is likely too low to operate safely and effectively.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, which is a silver braided hose connecting two pipes near your boiler.Open the valves on both ends of the hose to allow mains water into the system.Monitor the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler until the needle reaches the green zone (usually between 1.0 and 1.5 bar).Close both valves tightly and ensure there is no leaking from the filling loop.

£80-150

Water pressure sensor, Filling loop

02
E041 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has detected that the water pressure inside the heating system is too low to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the external filling loop, usually two valves connected by a braided silver hose under the boiler.Gradually open the valves to let water into the system until the pressure gauge reads between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.Close both valves tightly and ensure the boiler resets its display.

Est. cost
£80-150
Parts
Pressure relief valve, Pressure sensor, Expansion vessel

03
E010 High Engineer

Your boiler has failed to light the flame or detected an internal control error, so it has safely shut down to prevent gas from escaping.

Est. cost
£120-£250
Parts
Ignition electrode, Gas valve, PCB (Printed Circuit Board)
Full guide for E010
04
E020 High Engineer

Your boiler has detected that it is running too hot and has automatically shut down to prevent damage to its internal parts.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Limit thermostat, Pump, Diverter valve
Full guide for E020
05
E021 High Engineer

Your boiler has failed to ignite because it cannot detect a flame, meaning your heating and hot water will not work.

Est. cost
£120-250
Parts
Ignition electrode, Flame rectification probe, Gas valve
Full guide for E021
06
