The 6 most common faults
Your boiler has tried to light several times but cannot establish a steady flame, which means your heating and hot water will not work.
Check that your gas meter has credit and the emergency control valve is turned on.Verify if other gas appliances, like a cooker, are working correctly to rule out a supply issue.Press the Reset button (indicated by a flame with a cross through it) and hold for 1-3 seconds.
Your boiler has detected that it is getting too hot and has shut down as a safety precaution.
Check that all radiator valves are fully open to allow water to flow.Ensure there is enough water pressure in the system by checking the gauge.Try resetting the boiler by turning the control knob to the 'Reset' position for a few seconds.
Your boiler has stopped working because the water pressure inside the system has dropped too low.
Locate the flexible filling loop underneath the boiler.Slowly open the one or two taps/levers on the filling loop to allow water into the system.Watch the pressure gauge and close the taps once it reaches 1.5 bar.Reset the boiler to clear the fault code.
Your boiler has shut down because the water is heating up too quickly or isn't circulating properly through the system.
Check that all radiator valves are fully openCheck the boiler pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 barBleed all radiators to remove trapped airEnsure there are no obstructions to the external pipework
Your boiler has detected that water isn't moving through the system properly, causing it to shut down to prevent overheating.
Check that all radiator valves are fully openEnsure the boiler pressure is between 1.0 and 1.5 bar on the gaugeBleed all radiators to remove trapped airReset the boiler using the power or reset button
Your boiler started to heat up but the flame went out unexpectedly while it was running.
Check if other gas appliances, like a hob, are working to ensure gas is reaching the propertyEnsure your pre-paid gas meter has creditCheck if the condensate pipe (the plastic pipe leading outside) is frozen or blockedReset the boiler using the reset button

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…
- You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
- The Heatline shows an Emergency or High severity code
- The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
- You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
- There's visible water leaking from the boiler
- The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
