Common problems guide

The most common Ideal Concorde problems

The faults most likely to send a Ideal Concorde into lockout — with plain-English causes, what to check first, estimated repair costs and whether you need a Gas Safe engineer.

This model is discontinued. Parts can be harder to source and expensive. If repair costs are mounting, a new A-rated boiler may be the smarter choice.

The 6 most common faults

01
L1 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has shut down because it has detected it is getting too hot or that water is not moving through the system properly.

What to try first

Check that your system pressure is between 1 and 1.5 barEnsure all radiator valves and the boiler isolation valves are fully openBleed your radiators to remove any trapped air pocketsReset the boiler using the control knob or reset button

Est. cost
£120-£450
Parts
Circulating Pump, Thermistor (NTC Sensor), Main Heat Exchanger
Full guide for L1
02
L2 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has tried to light several times but failed, so it has shut itself down for safety.

What to try first

Check if your gas supply is active (e.g., check other gas appliances or your meter credit)Locate the reset button on the control panelPress and hold the reset button for 2 seconds

Est. cost
£100-£350
Parts
Ignition electrode, Flame sensing probe, Gas valve
Full guide for L2
03
F1 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has stopped working because there isn't enough water pressure in the system to operate safely.

What to try first

Locate the filling loop (usually a silver braided hose with small valves under the boiler).Open both valves slowly until you hear water flowing and the pressure gauge reaches between 1 and 1.5 bar.Close both valves tightly and restart the boiler using the reset button.

Est. cost
£0-120
Parts
Filling loop, Pressure sensor, Expansion vessel
Full guide for F1
04
F2, FN or LN High DIY-safe

Your boiler has failed to light or has lost its flame while running, meaning it cannot heat your home or water.

What to try first

Check if your home has a gas supply by testing another gas appliance like a hob.Verify that your gas meter has credit if you use a pre-payment meter.Press the reset button on the boiler control panel.

Est. cost
£120-350
Parts
Ignition electrode, Flame sensing probe, Gas valve
Full guide for F2, FN or LN
05
FU High DIY-safe

Your boiler has shut down because it is getting too hot too quickly, likely because water isn't circulating through the system properly.

What to try first

Check that all radiator valves are turned onEnsure the large lever valves directly underneath the boiler are in the 'open' position (aligned with the pipe)Check if your pump is running or if its speed setting has been accidentally lowered

Est. cost
£100-£350
Parts
Circulation pump, Flow/Return thermistors, Heat exchanger (descaling)
Full guide for FU
06
F2 High DIY-safe

Your boiler has started to light but the flame has gone out unexpectedly, meaning it has shut down for safety.

What to try first

Check if other gas appliances, like a hob, are working to ensure gas supply is activeCheck your gas meter credit if you have a prepayment meterPress the reset button once to see if the boiler restarts

Est. cost
£100-350
Parts
Flame Sensing Electrode, Gas Valve, Ignition Lead
Full guide for F2

Call a Gas Safe engineer if…

  • You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
  • The Ideal shows an Emergency or High severity code
  • The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
  • You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
  • There's visible water leaking from the boiler
  • The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
