Technical description: Dry fire
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the heat exchanger gets too hot because water isn't moving through the unit quickly enough to carry the heat away. The most common reasons are a failed internal pump that has stopped spinning or a blockage in the system caused by a buildup of sludge and debris.
This fault often appears when the heating is first turned on in autumn, as the pump can seize up after being inactive over the summer months.
DIY fix possible
Check the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler; it should be between 1 and 1.5 bar.If the pressure is low, use the filling loop underneath the boiler to top it up.Ensure all radiator valves and the main boiler isolation valves are fully open.Restart the boiler by pressing the 'Reset' button.
