F7228 on Worcester Bosch CDi Classic

Your boiler detects a flame when there shouldn't be one, so it has shut down as a safety precaution to prevent gas from flowing incorrectly.

Call an engineer soon

Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24 to 48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.

Technical description

Isioniation current detected before burner start

What causes this fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler's internal sensor detects an electrical signal signifying a flame is present before the ignition process has even started. The most common reasons are a moisture-damaged or soot-covered electrode sending a false signal, or a faulty gas valve that is leaking small amounts of gas into the combustion chamber.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
