The 6 most common faults
Your boiler is trying to start but the burner is failing to ignite, meaning you currently have no heating or hot water.
Check if other gas appliances, like a hob, are working to ensure gas is reaching the propertyCheck that your gas pre-payment meter (if applicable) has creditPress the Reset button once to see if the boiler restarts
Your boiler has detected that the water pressure is too low to operate safely, causing it to shut down.
Locate the filling loop (usually a silver flexible hose) under the boiler.Slowly open the small valves to allow water into the system.Watch the pressure gauge and close the valves once it reaches between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.
Your boiler is unable to start the pilot flame, which means it cannot provide any heating or hot water until the ignition process is successful.
Check if your gas supply is turned on and other gas appliances are workingPress the reset button once to try and restart the ignition sequenceEnsure there is credit on your pre-payment gas meter
Your boiler has lost water pressure and does not have enough water inside it to run safely.
Locate the filling loop (the flexible silver hose usually found underneath the boiler).Slowly open the one or two small valves on the hose until you hear water entering the system.Watch the pressure gauge and close the valves tightly once the needle reaches 1.5 bar.
Your boiler is struggling to heat your hot water properly, usually because the water is flowing through it too quickly for it to warm up or because the gas supply is restricted.
Full guide for WATER TEMPERATUREYour boiler is making loud banging or kettling noises because of a buildup of limescale or poor water circulation, which is causing parts to overheat.

Based on parts cited in our fault code database. Your engineer will confirm what's actually needed after diagnosis.
Call a Gas Safe engineer if…
- You can smell gas or see signs of a leak
- The Chaffoteaux shows an Emergency or High severity code
- The boiler keeps locking out after repeated resets
- You've tried the DIY checks and the fault hasn't cleared
- There's visible water leaking from the boiler
- The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
