Technical description
Frequent loss of flame
What causes this fault?
This fault occurs when the boiler successfully lights but cannot maintain a stable flame, causing the system to shut down for safety. The most common reason is a worn or dirty sensing probe that can no longer detect the fire, though it can also be caused by an inconsistent gas supply or a failing internal control board. Because the boiler keeps 'dropping' the flame, it eventually gives up and stops trying to provide heat.
This fault can be more frequent during very cold snaps if the external gas regulator or pipework is affected by freezing temperatures, leading to those inconsistent pressure drops.
Engineer required
This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
