What causes this fault?

This occurs because the water in your boiler has reached its target temperature and the system needs to wait for it to cool down before firing up again. To prevent wear and tear, the boiler enters a temporary 'holding' state to stop it from switching on and off too rapidly. This is most often caused by the radiators already being warm or the heating system being unable to move the heat away from the boiler quickly enough.

This is more common during the autumn and spring when the weather is milder and your home doesn't require the boiler's full heat output to stay warm.

DIY fix possible

Wait 15-30 minutes for the timer to count down automaticallyCheck that your room thermostat is turned up higher than the current room temperatureEnsure at least one radiator (usually the one in the same room as the thermostat) is turned fully open
