What causes this fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler tries to light but cannot establish a stable flame to provide heat or hot water. The most common reasons include a lack of gas reaching the burner, a buildup of carbon on the ignition probe, or a faulty component that is unable to detect that the fire has actually started. To stay safe, the boiler stops working immediately to ensure gas does not enter your home without being burned.

This fault is slightly more common in winter as cold weather can cause external gas meters or pipes to experience pressure drops, or internal components may fail under the heavy workload of heating a cold home.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
