High Lockout
S.54 on Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 28

Your boiler has paused operation because it has detected a lack of water flow or pressure, preventing the system from heating up safely.

Call an engineer soon

Book a Gas Safe engineer within 24 to 48 hours. Your boiler may be unsafe or could break down completely if left.

Technical description

Waiting time: Water shortage. Product is in the waiting period of the operation blocking function as a result of low water pressure (temperature gradient).

What causes this fault?

This fault occurs when the boiler detects that heat isn't being moved away from the internal heat exchanger quickly enough, suggesting a lack of water flow. The most common reasons are a failed internal pump, a build-up of sludge blocking the pipes, or a faulty sensor incorrectly reading the system pressure.

This issue is frequently seen at the start of autumn when heating systems are turned back on after a long summer break, which can cause internal pump parts to seize.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
