What causes this fault?

It is often caused by the delicate internal switch on the circuit board wearing out or failing after repeated use, leading the boiler to believe the button is being held down permanently.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
