What causes this fault?

This fault occurs when the heat pump's main brain loses touch with the component that controls the motor's speed and power. It is usually caused by a physical failure of the internal circuitry or a loose connection in the wiring that prevents these two parts from talking to each other. Because the system can no longer safely manage the motor, it shuts down to prevent electrical damage.

Engineer required

This is a high severity fault. Stop using the boiler and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not attempt gas-related repairs yourself.
